Evangelism
Many of today's churches soft-pedal the
truth of the gospel.
They tell you that you can meet Jesus through
membership of their church and that you will receive many blessings
from God if
you would only tithe, (or donate,) substantial amounts of money to
them. Well,
this isn't God's standard for salvation. A terrible fate awaits those
who do not have Jesus as their Saviour. In fact, the fate of the
unsaved is only marginally better than those who led them astray in the
first place. Either way, eternity in hell's fire awaits those
who reject the Lord. This may sound harsh treatment from the one who is
generally advertised as a "loving" God. However, it is, in reality, the
most loving thing that God could do.
Imagine all the wrongs of the world that seem to go unpunished. Whoever
said the words, "crime doesn't pay," has their head firmly planted in
the sand. People wouldn't do it if it didn't pay. Is it right that
someone can rob you of your belongings and get away with it? Is it
right that the murderer can get away unpunished?
God doesn't want anyone to perish and the whole of
Heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents but He must punish sin. How
then, can you be
saved? Firstly, you need to consider your own state before the Holy,
Righteous and Almighty God. It's easy to condemn the hardened criminal
but when you measure yourself against God's standards, you, like me,
fall terribly short.
Have
you ever told a lie?
Then the Bible says that God views you as a liar and all liars are
condemned to a place
in the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:8
Have you ever stolen anything? No matter how small? Then, by the same token, you're a thief and the Bible says that no thief will inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:10
Have you ever blasphemed, or taken the name of God and used it as a curse? No blasphemer will enter Heaven.
Exodus
20:7
If you realise that you have done all of this, and more, (check the whole list of ten commandments in Exodus 20) then come to the Lord in a spirit of submission.
Realise that you have offended the One who created you and longs to receive you back into His presence.
Repent, (turn away from,) your sins and trust in Jesus as the one who died in your place so that you could go to Heaven and live for ever in the presence of God.
Acts
17:30, Acts 3:19, Acts 2:38
No, you won't necessarily receive material blessings through salvation in Jesus Christ but you will receive the gift of eternal life.
